Coventry Aircraft Hire

F A Q

What makes you different from the rest?

Take Flight members enjoy aircraft hire without limits. There's no minimum hours requirement, which means you can hire aircraft for a day or a weekend, but only pay for the time the aircraft is in use. It's like having your own aircraft to use as you wish, but at the fraction of the cost of ownership! Unlike most flying schools and training organisations whose emphasis is training, Take Flight focuses on pilots like you who want clean and reliable aircraft to fly without restrictions, whenever you want.

No equity flying groups - a new concept?

Some new groups might think they've invented a new concept in aviation but we at Take Flight have been doing it for over fifteen years and have traded at Wellesbourne since 1995. We lead others may try and follow.

How much does it cost?

The monthly fixed cost to members is £40 per month then you pay per hour. You can fly as little or as much as you like. No minimums - no maximums. Student PPL's pay half price for the duration of training.

Does the hire include fuel?

The rate includes fuel, VAT and home landing fees at Wellesbourne Mountford. The rate advertised is the rate you pay, there's no fuel supplement or hidden charges with us!

Who owns the aircraft?

We have a combination of aircraft owned outright by Take Flight Aviation Limited and leased aircraft this gives us the best of both worlds with security of our own aircraft and the flexibility to lease aircraft as demand requires.

Are there any extras or fuel supplements?

There are no extras to pay. The rate is fully inclusive including fuel, VAT and landing at Wellesbourne Mountford. No supplements. Obviously if you land away you are responsible for your landing fees, but circuits at Wellesbourne won't cost you any extra.

How come you're so competitive?

Our members enjoy aircraft hire rates, which are pretty much at cost if you take into account the cost of fuel, insurance, parking, VAT, home landing, maintenance, engine fund and capital cost. The club is funded by member subscriptions and also corporate operators and private owners who utilise the clubhouse building and VIP lounge facility.

What if I have to re- fuel away from home?

If you refuel the aircraft away from home you simply deduct the cost of the fuel (at the local Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield rate) from you settlement payment. If you get the fuel cheaper (whilst in Jersey for example) - you win! If you pay a bit more for the fuel, it's still better than running out!

How do I book the aircraft?

We'll run through web based booking system with you and you'll get you own password to access the system. It's simple and only takes seconds to book the aircraft. If you're not able to get on line we can still book it for you by phone.

When do I pay?

You simply leave a cheque for your hire when you return the aircraft or pay by credit or debit card at no extra cost. If you want to pay by monthly invoice to a business then we can arrange that for you as well.

Do I have to make an advanced payment?

No! Unlike some operators we don't ask for any advanced payment for hire and you simply pay your subscriptions monthly in advance. Don't worry we have no intention of running off with your forty quid Take Flight has been trading at Wellesbourne since 1998! If you would prefer to pay annually by invoice to your business this can be arranged.

What does the Aircraft Insurance cover and is there an excess?

There are copy insurance documents in the clubhouse and subject to you flying under the terms of our hire agreement and insurance your liability for accidental damage is limited to £750.00. Insurance covers members' pleasure and business activities and also training by an approved Take Flight instructor.

Is there a minimum membership term?

We ask new members to commit to twelve months but as we have nothing to hide and most of our members have been with us for years you're welcome to give it a go for a month and see how we work for you. What we don't allow is occasional on and off membership - but once you see what we have to offer in terms of our facilities, aircraft and the flexibility we don't think you'll want to fly anywhere else.

Can anyone join?

We'd like you to be recommended by an existing member who can check you out on the club aircraft but if you don't know anyone in the club or are not experienced on type, for your own safety we would ask for a check flight with one of our instructors.

Can I join as a student PPL?

Yes! What's more membership is half price (£20 per month) whilst you are learning. You can also learn a lot from being around the club when you're not on a flying lesson and you may just get offered to sit in the back on members' flights if they have a spare seat. Once you have you PPL you'll be able to use the club aircraft as a full member and benefit from the freedom that Take Flight and a Pilots licence will offer you.

Can you offer Instruction?

Yes. Flying Instruction is £30 per hour for Advanced, Night, IMC or PPL in addition to Aircraft Hire Rates. We normally operate a full days instruction on one aircraft on Sunday with ad-hoc lessons with our part-time instructors who are professional flyers in the week.

Do you offer Trial Lessons and Gift Vouchers?

Yes. Trial lessons with a CAA licensed instructor and trial flying lesson gift vouchers start from just £79 for 30 minutes. £99 for £40 minutes and £139 per hour. Should you continue you can log the time towards your Private Pilots Licence (PPL)

Are you registered for VAT?

Yes. Our VAT registration number is 917 0052 54. All our published hire prices and membership subscriptions already include VAT at 17.5%.
