Bolt Head & Salcombe Day Fly Out.14th May 2017. Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Salcombe! Following on from our club talk on Farm Strips, we took the opportunity to visit this beautifully maintained airstrip at Bolt head, on the South Devon Coast, or as it's sometimes billed "The English Riviera". The town, a popular upmarket tourist destination, is close to the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary and the Salcombe waterfront property built on the steep west side of the water is both impressive and expensive!
The 150 mile trip puts you straight in the middle of some stunning countryside and coastal views. 2 x PA-32's, 2 x PA-28's and a C172 were added to the local bird spotters blackboard - not sure they were too impressed! We took a walk to the local farm and the do it yourself walkers den, for tea and cake, before heading down to Sound Sands for a short ferry ride to Salcombe where we enjoyed a late lunch and ice cream. Some opted for a taxi back whilst others took an hour or so long stroll back to the airfield to work off a few calories. |
