Leicester Go-Karting 2022

Wednesday 22nd June 2022. The annual Take Flight Go-Karting Grand Prix took place at Stretton Circuit next to Leicester Airfield. Three Take Flight Aircraft took an enjoyable flight over to the circuit whilst discussing the possibilities of team, tactics and who to watch out for from previous years, whilst taking In some the views with fantastic visibility on the summers evening.

Once landed we all met up with some old friends who couldn’t resist joining for the outing. 2 PA28s, 1 C172, 1 Piper Arrow, 1 Slingsby Firefly and a CAP10 all emptied their pilots and passengers and headed to the circuit. A quick safety briefing followed then it was time to don our racing gear, meanwhile names were picked out of the hat to provide 8 pairs of 2 drivers for an endurance race.

At least one pit stop was needed to change drivers but teams could choose how they divided their time over the course of the 50 minute race with Chris Clarke under investigation immediately for  overtaking during the formation lap! Karts 1,2 and 3 all bunched together around the first lap until the nasty downhill hairpin threw 1 spinning off the track to allow an easy position advantage for the drivers behind. With most drivers deciding to have 12-15 minutes stints due to the OAT and constant strain on the arms, the pit lane was busy. Winners (subject to FIA appeal) 1st Andy & Chris, 2nd Sam & George, 3rd Will & Pete. Great fun!
