Isle of Wight '2330th April 2023. Take Flight Aviation was on tour again and although it wasn't the finest of Spring days four aircraft made the trip to Bembridge Airport on the Isle of Wight, just off the South Coast of England. The airport has been in operation since 1921 although no longer licenced it is still manned at the weekends.
Home to around 140,000 residents the island is the second most populous island in England and lies just two miles off the coast across the Solent in the English Channel. The island is 23 miles long and 13 miles wide and takes about an hour to drive from West to East and a lot less to fly! Our group of pilots and their passengers enjoyed a hearty Sunday roast at The Propellor Inn overlooking the airfield. There was an amusing incident with the Cauliflower Cheese that tickled everyone. Then a short walk and stroll along the beach for ice cream, only to find the cafe closed. The Matrix crew watched everyone depart before heading back to Coventry via Oxford for refueling. More fun and games at Coventry putting on the cover with the help from the worlds tallest pilot! |
