Guinness World Record & Pooleys Dawn to Dusk Awards 2021.15th September 2021. Covid restrictions on flying and get togethers meant the Dawn to Dusk awards event and flying competition had been delayed for a couple of years. Take Flight Aviation have been involved in Pooleys event since 2011 when Take Flight Aviation's MD Mike Roberts and then Student Pilot and Operations Assistant Kim Towle won the top accolade the Duke of Edinburgh Trophy. In this years awards Take Flight member Ruth Bridges and Sharlene Benn won the Tiger Club Trophy whilst Nick Rogers and Mike Roberts picked up the long distance medal for flying over 1500 miles visiting 16 countries in a day easily breaking the previous world record of 11.
Nick and Mike's World Record attempt started in Denmark at 1.35Z then making full stop landings at Sweden, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungry, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium before finishing in France at 21.00Z alas being unable to continue on to the UK and beyond due to fog, however a hotel with all night bar was found to reminisce on an extraordinary days flying. Take Flight would encourage everyone to consider being involved in next years competition not forgetting the bonus of attending the awards ceremony in the glorious RAF club in London's Piccadilly. |
