OLD WARDEN SHUTTLEWORTH FLYING PROMS 201917th - 18th August 2019. The sun came out for one of the most anticipated events of the busy Take Flight calendar: the Shuttleworth Flying Proms at Old Warden Airfield in Bedfordshire. Four of our aircraft represented 50% of those who’d braved the challenging gusty winds to fly in, each one laden with plenty of extra weight in the form of extensive picnic provisions.
As always, Take Flight members went in black tie, making pod 40 the most glamorous place to be as the Proms got underway and bottles were uncorked. The National Symphony Orchestra belted out some of the most popular Last Night of the Proms and aviation-themed tunes, while a superb selection of aircraft including a Spitfire, Dragon Rapide and Westland Lysander performed breathtaking displays of their own. A ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ finale complete with firework display was the icing on the cake to a fantastic evening, with the merriment continuing into the small hours and another windy but sunny flight back to Wellesbourne next day. |
